PlainPaisa

About and methodology

PlainPaisa builds free calculators and plain-language guides for salaried professionals in India.

How we build each calculator

Every calculator starts from the law itself: the relevant section of the Income-tax Act, the rules made under it, and guidance published by the Income Tax Department. Where the law changed during the period a calculator covers, it applies the rates and rules that were in force in each year.

Before a calculator goes live, its results are checked against worked examples computed by hand. Each tool page shows the full working behind its result, so you can check it yourself or share it with your accountant.

Keeping tools up to date

Tax rules change with every Budget and with new rules and circulars. Each tool page shows the date it was last reviewed. We review tools after every Union Budget and whenever the department issues changes that affect them.

What our tools do not do

Our calculators give estimates for guidance. They do not replace advice from a chartered accountant, and each tool page lists the situations it does not cover. If your case is complex, or large sums are involved, please take professional advice before filing.

Your data

Calculations run in your browser. We do not collect or store the figures you enter. See our privacy policy for details.
